JKD Colorado Seminar Performance Training

Just got back from the JKD Colorado annual seminar. There was an outstanding line-up of instructors which included Mike Gittleson, Micheal Rutter, John McClean and Tom Harvey (myself).  If you happen to be located in the Colorado area or simply passing through I highly recommend contacting Mike. Here is his a link to his website JKDColorado.com

The topic I covered during this seminar was Athletic Performance as it relates to Jeet Kune Do and martial fitness.  The main theme on performance training was using dynamic warm-ups to enhance overall performance, correct imbalances, joint stabilization, and enhance your skill specific training. Strength speed training principles, program design principles, and deceleration training were also topics that we discussed.

We had a lot of discussion surrounding the concept of strength and speed being a skill. We looked at performance as our benchmark during speed and strength training which will lead to better performance. Instead of focusing on simply getting a good workout. This is a very important principle “Quality before Intensity“.

We also had a lot of discussion on how Program Design is an art. Methods are many but principles are few. Like Jeet Kune Do athletic performance training is principle driven. The “Art” is how we apply those principles.

These are all topics that are part of the HEAT Performance Coach certification course. If your interested in becoming a HEAT certified performance coach please contact us through the contact page. Also don’t forget to checkout the HEAT 90 Day Warrior Challenge by clicking here. It’s not quite ready for everyone and there will be a limited number of people admitted at any given time so make sure to reserve your spot.

Below is a short clip from the Athletic Performance discussion.
