Mike Rutter is truly a dynamic teacher. He is one of the most skilled martial artist I know. He has an amazing gift when it comes to teaching, a trait which is rare. I am honored and blessed to have had the opportunity to study under him. ~Tom Harvey
Martial Arts Experience & Training
1972-1975: Judo Training, Competition – Green Belt
1975, 1978-79: Shotokan (Japanese) Karate – Green Belt
1979-1987: Tang Soo Do (Korean) Karate, Black Belts in both the U.S. TSD Moo Duk Kwan and World TSD Federations. (World TSD Certificate from Jae C. Shin, Chuck Norris’ instructor). Various competitions and demonstrations, self-defense seminars.
1987-1990: Various training in Wing Chun Kung Fu (Bruce Lee’s original style) and some study of Tai Chi.
1992-1994: American Independent Karate Instructor Association (AIKIA), Black Belt level instructor of American/Freestyle Karate.
1993: Met Sifu Ted Wong at the AIKIA Summer Camp (Radford University, Virginia). Ted Wong was a private student and personal friend of Bruce Lee.
1994- Present: Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do – the effective martial art based on physics not tradition. Over 25 various seminars and training sessions with Ted Wong, including two separate weeks at his home and bringing him to Minnesota 9 times. He returned to AIKIA Summer Camp as an instructor in 1995, and received full instructor certification from Ted Wong in April of 2000. He often acts as Sifu Wong’s “fall guy” during his seminar demonstrations.

May & June of 2009: Hunan Province, China brought Bruce Lee’s art back to China. While there he taught 6 hours a day, gave interviews, wrote several articles, and provided the forward to the book “Bruce Lee’s Commentaries on the Martial Way (Chinese Translation).”

1995-1997 various articles regarding JKD training and summer camps published in Inside Karate/Inside Kung Fu magazines, including one cover article. Self-published author of two martial art novels, “KickBack” and “Reversal,” with plans for additional novel based on experiences in China.
