Sifu Ted Wong

Sifu Ted Wong was one of Bruce Lee’s closest friends and his private, personal student. Ted Wong’s first encounter with Bruce Lee was in 1967, in Los Angeles, California, where Lee was giving a Kung Fu seminar. He was so impressed with Bruce Lee that he decided to study martial arts at Bruce Lee’s Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute.

Shortly after beginning his martial arts studies Bruce Lee saw something special in Sifu Ted Wong. He was invited to Bruce’s house and was taken on as a private student. He was Bruce Lee’s last private student and has had the most time in private instruction with Bruce Lee. Sifu Ted Wong was not only Bruce Lee’s student but also a close friend.

Sifu Ted Wong is known today as one of the most knowledgeable men in the world on Jeet Kune Do.

My introduction to Sifu Ted Wong came after beginning to study Jeet Kune Do under Sifu Mike Rutter. At that time I was training in Kajukenbo. After only a few private session with Sifu Mike Rutter, I was invited to attend a Ted Wong workshop. A group of us loaded up and make the long drive across country. Upon attending the intense two day workshop I was taken back by Sifu Ted Wong’s abilities, knowledge and amazing footwork. From that day forward I was hooked.

Outside of his abilities and knowledge, if I had to list the most inspiring aspect of Sifu Ted Wong it would be his quiet and humble demeanor. He also has a great and witty sense of humor. There are few individuals I truly think embody the pure essence of what a martial arts master is and he is one of them.
