MMA Core Conditioning Workout

In this workout we are targeting Skill Related Fitness (SRF) for the Mixed Martial Artist aka. MMA. This core workout is geared towards grappling from the back. The workout was completed at the end of the training session making it a finisher.

Most people typically complete Core workouts at the end of a training session. I advise that you also design your program so that Core gets rotated to the beginning on a regular basis. Another option is to dedicated training session to Core development.

JKD Footwork Development Smoothing out Footwork

The best method for smoothing out footwork, that I have found, is in the use of patterns. I asked a similar question to Sifu Ted Wong and that was the response I got. Since then it has made a world of difference in the development of my footwork.

For example in a previous post I touched on Side Stepping. Now in that clip the underlining idea was to get across the concept of leveraging body-weight with footwork through the use of the core. The use of punching was also briefly discussed. Although I did not go into the application of side stepping to any degree or speed, there are a number of ways that pattern can be used.

Just wanted to send out a quick update letting you know of the seminar location. It will be held at Moore’s Shou Shu Studios at 101 main St. South, Minot ND 58701 starting at 9 am. I spoke with Sifu Rodger yesterday and he made the offer, please make sure to thank him.

Sifu Mike will be heading this way Friday morning with an expected ETA of around 2pm. Feel free to let me know if you want to stop by the house.

We are looking at having a cook out following the seminar at my home. If you plan to bring anything let me know.
